Exploring memories through the senses

Let’s all pack our picnic baskets with delicious food
and take a journey down memory lane, as we travel
by steam train to find our perfect picnic destination!

Our story begins with a grandmother (Emily), looking through old photographs with her grandchildren.  The photographs were taken when Emily was a little girl, on a day when she went on a picnic with her sister (Karen) and their grandmother (Jazamin).  As Emily recounts her treasured memories of that day, we will bring the story to life using sound, movement and art.

There will be lots of things to see, hear, touch and smell, as we explore different picnic destinations.  The children will be able to participate by suggesting ideas, and by joining in with sounds, songs and movements.  An illustrated backdrop will be created before their very eyes, incorporating ideas suggested by the children themselves.

Workshop:

Following the performance, we will be running an arts/music workshop for the children and any grandparents/older relatives who are attending, during which everyone will be able to make their very own picnic basket, and to create their own “food” to put inside it.

Themes:

The piece introduces themes of memories, older people and family relationships.  Any grandparents/older relatives who are attending will have the opportunity to provide input whilst watching the performance, and to work together with the children during the workshop.  This will help to forge stronger bonds and greater understanding between children and older relatives, and will provide an opportunity to create treasured new memories together.

Suitable for children aged 2 - 6 years.
